Along the intricate paths of history it was always primordial elements that helped Man reach farther and farther. At some point, under the hands of master craftsmen forests morphed into majestic ships. Ropes and sails harnessed the ocean’s winds.  Soon after, the Earth lost its flatness.

In the “Civilizations” series Eugen-Florin Zamfirescu uses the symbolism of ships and their endeavors as a metaphor for the various stages of civilizations.  The sense of passing time that lingers between one painting and another creates a flow that expresses through seductive quintessential imagery the history of our world.  The artist invites you to come along on a journey between realistic depiction and dreamy illusion. Going into the past we can discover and reveal in turn the future.

“Magical, inspirational, insightful!  These are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think of Eugen-Florin Zamfirescu’s paintings, and in particular the series titled “Civilizations”.

When I look at the “Civilizations” series, the elegant ships capture me and pull me into another world that is waiting to be explored. Eugen-Florin immaculately layers the finest of detail, and in doing so creates a truly rich and immersive experience. The paintings entice me to look deeper, to discover the many stories carefully woven throughout each wave and each sail. As I decipher these secrets, I happily drift away from my own reality to contemplate the imagined world in front of me – a world conceived with dimension and purpose.

It is clear that Eugen-Florin’s dedicated studies in science, history, philosophy and humanity have helped sculpt this magnificent series. In these ships, I see the hand of a true artist and the mind of a true intellect. I am privileged to have experienced this exceptional series, “Civilizations”.
