Hello everyone! Salutari tuturor! My name is Laura-Giorgiana Balan and this year I have been chosen as one of the national finalists for Miss World Canada 2014!

I was born in beautiful Bucharest, Romania and currently I reside in Montreal, Canada – a place that has welcomed me with open arms. The people I have meet, either long term or short term always left an impact my life. I have been raised up learning the meaning of hard work, which today makes me a devoted and ambitious person. Although I have lived in Canada for a big part of my life, I remain in touch with my Romanian heritage. Our traditions have a special place in my heart, and I try to see my country as often as I can. When I sent my application to Miss World Canada, I really hoped to bring our Romanian beauty and charm to an international stage.

Something I am proud of is that throughout my life, I have had a sense of civil duty and compassion for the needy. For a while I have been active the Montreal Children Hospital Charity, raising funds through fashion shows. In the charities I support, children foundations must take top priority. I also work with AIDS related charities, since it is one of the major epidemics of the 21st century. McGill college closely works with this global issue, I actively participate in their fundraisers. Quoting Malcolm X: “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today”. I have always believed in sacrificing short term pleasure for latter more promising outcomes such as education. Currently I am a student in psychology at Concordia University. I will strive to finish with a PHD in neuropsychology. In my spare time I love tutoring and I dedicate time at tutoring centers at university.
