Florin Hategan is an artist and print maker. His career has included many shows throughout the world in North America, South America, Europe, and the Middle and Far East.

Florin Hategan is an visual artist based in Maple, Ontario. He studied civil engineering and graphic arts. His career has included many shows throughout the world in North America, South America, Europe, and the Middle and Far East.

Using drawing and printmaking techniques, Florin Hategan creates works inspired by his childhood and other personal, emotional experiences, preferring black and white media as they allow him to express the contradictions inherent in human life, and the energy that arises from those contradictions. “To draw, for me,” he said in 1996, It is my way to tell the whole truth about the inside and outside world, and eventually to give an expression to my entire ‘population’ of thoughts.”

In his early 2007 s prints, there is a concern for the cityscape and the collision of humanity with technology. Over the years he has explored, as well as themes from his childhood, the fall of the Iron Curtain in eastern Europe, the consequences of war, and the relation between human anatomy and urban architecture. His works includes “studies of crowds as a global expression of spirituality, along with an in depth study of plastic space and techniques using details as a re-dimension of notion of epic” (1996). In 1997 Hategan was awarded the Television Osaka Prize at the Osaka Print Triennial in Japan.

In his recent works, he is questioning the rhetoric of values in our life, with the emergence of new definitions and interpretation of the same values, that is the collision between new and old. His paintings are the result of deconstructing certain values of our life in micro fragments and then re-constructing in a different fashion in order to deliver an “instant” vision of our “on the go” reality.
