Suie Paparude – Moartea Boxelor

Bucharest-based WeAreOm – repped by Trunk in London – created this beautiful, richly imaginative and atmospheric video for Suie Paparude’s Moartea Boxelor.

Moving through a landscape full of shadows and harsh contrasts filmed at oblique angles, the film combines classic film noir effects with new film making techniques. “These included ink running experiments and other dark liquid shots that were composited into each respective shot,” says Anton Groves, one half of WeAreOm.

“We also used some old speakers to create a kind of 3d graphic equaliser with the ‘coffee’ that appears in her cup in the second part of the video. Ironically, the title of this track can be translated to “Death to the Speakers” – which is funny because 5 speakers were actually burnt out and destroyed during these experiments.”

WeAreOm are brothers Anton and Damian Groves – originally from Croydon, the brothers moved to Romania with their families and set up Studioset, a postproduction house based in Bucharest that’s created work for Sony, Microsoft and Alpha Bank, among others, using live action as well as animation. Their short films include the award-winning Line.
